What was it like to travel around the world in 1884?

Caroline, Anthony, and Charles Casorso left their childhood home in northern Italy in teh summer of 1884 to travel with their mother by ship to a new home in Canada.

After the sea journey, how would their find their way inland through forests and mountains? Their destination was a tiny, remote place called Okanagan Mission.
